2025 - 4 Roads Predictions For the Year in Tech

We still haven’t perfected the technology behind our crystal ball, which helps us make predictions about technology and the world, but last year, we did okay.

What did we get right and wrong?

In 2024, the team here at 4 Roads predicted:

Bitcoin to the moon – this one we nailed. Bitcoin began 2024 at $35,626 and ended the year at $74,500.10. We are not financial advisors, but that is a great return!

Humanity back to the moon – we were a little off with this one. Humans didn’t quite set foot on the moon again, but the Chinese probe Chang’e-6 landed on the far side of the moon, and Intuitive Machines landed the first commercial craft on the moon.

LLM in everything and nothing – this might seem like an obvious prediction; LLMs were all the talk in late 2023, but how often do you hear the term LLM? The different use cases for all LLMs, whether maths-based or spoken language, have been bundled under an umbrella AI term. LLMs are now in everything and, at the same time, nothing.

Creative and Creator AI – We predicted that 2024 would be the year that AI algorithms would start creating beats, producing entire tracks that would end up in the charts. An AI track reached the top 50 in the German charts and number 3 on the Spotify global viral chart with 3.5 million streams.

AI and ML are changing healthcare – we might be a little ahead with our predictions here. Algorithms are not yet fully analysing medical imaging, but the work is well on its way. The move towards an NHS supported by virtual health assistants and chatbots is also still in its infancy. Let’s see how these develop!

To 2025 - what do 4 Roads think will happen this year?

Quantum Computing – 2025 will be the year that Quantum Computing becomes something amazing, but it also starts to pose the most significant risk to security in the history of digital.

Quantum technology is emerging as a critical tool for enhancing AI’s efficiency, and AI reciprocates by providing practical applications.

Combined solutions will lead to more optimised AI investments, reducing computational costs while allowing them to be tailored to specific use cases.

The risk? Quantum computers will be able to break common encryption methods at an alarming speed. Banking, emails, and anything encrypted could become vulnerable in 2025. So expect to see advancements in security and threats to your business’s data.

AI Gamification – Gamification is a powerful tool for enhancing user engagement. The education industry has begun to embrace the power of gamification to create dynamic and powerful educational experiences, and this year, 4-Roads believes that this trend will spread to businesses seeking to improve engagement and shape interactions within their community platforms.

AI can add a new dimension and level of personalisation to gamification within a community platform. Each individual user can have a more tailored and customised experience when interacting with your brand and other community members. Learning platforms like Duolingo already use AI to integrate gamification elements, making users return daily to learn more. In a community setting, AI can examine social connections and user behaviour, suggesting friends or teammates for challenges that will deepen a sense of community.

Vim motions and AI Agents – Vi Improved, Vim is highly customisable, making it a really attractive tool for giving flexibility over a text editing environment. We believe this will start to become commonplace in every editor by default. This exact scenario might not happen this year, but technology this year will develop towards a path where your fridge will render recipes to you based on what is currently inside the fridge itself.

While this may not happen yet, your fridge will still need to get to a point where it knows what is housed inside. What 4-Roads believes we will see this year is an increase in specialised agent-type AI bots programmed to do a singular or particular task.

A tale of two kings feeling rather uneasy – 2025 might be a challenging year for Google and Intel. Google’s core services are under threat for the first time. Gemini has been pushed too early, which has resulted in a noticeable degradation of the Google search UX. With Google search already falling out of favour, this could be a challenging year for the search engine. If Google doesn’t do something drastic, ad revenues could be significantly affected.

In a similar vein, Intel has been in a slow decline for quite some time. They have spent far too long and far too much focusing on expensive new foundries while investing less in developing their products. 4-Roads thinks this could be the year that AMD begins to take significant market share from Intel in both computing and data centre markets in 2025.

Social Media War and More Discontent – Bluesky may become bigger than X in 25 as people flock to spaces that better reflect their political views. But with the battle of social media comes more AI involvement. Fake news will become harder to spot in more polarised environments, and AI art and video will spread even faster, shared prolifically on a platform with isolated viewpoints.

This year, the team couldn’t seem to agree on bitcoin predictions, split between corrections and further adoptions that will bolster the use case. So, we are sitting on the fence with this one. Sorry if you were hoping our crystal ball would help again!

Ahead of the trends with 4 Roads

This year, we continue to work on some of the most interesting technology projects, spreading beyond the UK into international markets. You will see some of the impacts we have been able to bring to the future of energy, how we have helped one of the largest telecoms businesses create a family community, and all of the work we do to drive engagement and customer loyalty across the charity, retail, and automotive industries.

Whatever we get right or wrong with our predictions this year, you can be sure that the team at 4 Roads will be keeping up with every new technology. We will innovate and develop new techniques to ensure that you get the best results and stay ahead of the competition in 2025.
